- Lessons in the Fundamentals: By Kageyama Toshiro, English, 268 pages.
This is the favourite book of many Go players! It is interestingly written and covers a wide range of topics - a real treasure trove. Kageyama's topics include connecting, good and bad form, how stones should "run", the difference between territory and influence, how to use thick positions and walls, how to train your reading skills, how to properly approach a life-and-death problem - in other words, all very basic topics. In addition, Kageyama also goes into the proper methods of learning, for example how to study josekis.
- Direction of Play: by Kajiwara Takeo, English, 248 pages.
This book deals with the subject of "direction" - that is, in which direction pieces should develop during a game and in which direction pieces already played have an effect. This book is therefore recommended for all those who want to improve their strategic understanding of Go.
